1. Who we are
TheRateNow ("we", "us") operates the website theratenow.com, a free currency-conversion and exchange-rate information service. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have. For any privacy question, contact [email protected].
2. Data we collect
Data you provide
If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you submit. We use it solely to reply to you and keep it only as long as needed for that purpose.
Data collected automatically
- Usage data: pages visited, approximate location (country/city level, derived from IP), device and browser type, referring site. Collected via standard server logs and analytics to understand how the site is used and to improve it.
- Local storage: the converter caches recent exchange-rate data in your browser's local storage for up to 30 minutes so pages load faster. This data never identifies you and never leaves your device.
- Cookies: see section 4 and our Cookies Policy.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We display advertising served by Google AdSense to keep the site free. As part of this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- Depending on your region, you may see a consent banner allowing you to accept or reject the use of cookies for personalized ads, in line with the GDPR (EEA/UK) and similar laws.
For more detail on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
4. Cookies
We use (a) strictly necessary cookies for basic site operation, and (b) advertising cookies set by Google and its certified partners as described above. Our Cookies Policy lists categories and how to manage them in your browser.
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
Where the GDPR applies, we process usage data on the basis of legitimate interest (operating and securing a free informational service), contact-form data on the basis of your request (pre-contractual steps / consent), and advertising cookies on the basis of consent collected via the ad-consent banner.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell personal data. Data is shared only with the service providers required to run the site — hosting (Netlify), exchange-rate data delivery, and advertising (Google) — each acting under their own compliance frameworks. We may disclose information if required by law.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD and similar), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise any right, email [email protected]. California residents: we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as defined by the CCPA, other than the advertising cookies described above, which you can control via the opt-out links in section 3.
8. Data retention & security
Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and diagnostics. Contact messages are kept only while the conversation is active. The site is served over HTTPS.
9. Children
The site is a general-audience information tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as the site or the law evolves. The "last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
